Find your sense of ‘Adventure’ on South Uist (pronounced yoo-ist) – Majestic Mountains – Rugged Coastlines – Spectacular Beaches – any of these words will do when describing this stunning island situated within the archipelago of islands known as the Outer Hebrides.  South Uist is linked to Benbecula, North Uist and a number of smaller islands by a series of causeways and bridges offering visitors a contrasting mix of island experiences. There are many rewards waiting for you on South Uist which is famed for miles of idyllic white sandy beaches to the west, breath-taking mountains to the east, stunning wild flowering machair (Gaelic for low lying grassy plains) and its unique land & waterscapes.

The island offers a great range of facilities, attractions & activities for visitors and locals alike – spend the day exploring the village of Lochboisdale where the ferry arrives from Barra & Oban, take the coastal path from Locheynort which is fabulous for wildlife watching or head to South Lochboisdale where you can see beautiful thatched cottages and sit back and contemplate life at the Listening Place a sculpture created by the late Valerie Pragnell that forms part of the Uist Sculpture Trail. 

For the more adventurous take an organised boat trip to the isolated islands of St Kilda with their impressive cliffs & sea stacks or head to the mountains on the islands east side where you can climb the peaks of Beinn Mhor, Beinn Corradale or Ben Kenneth – whatever you do if you’re passing through, stop and stay for a while and enjoy ‘What’s on’ offer on South Uist!
